After decades of larger-than-life tales, Alice Cooper‘s latest memoir is the most accurate depiction of the rocker that fans have gotten so far, despite his reputation as a self-described unreliable storyteller.

Born Vincent Damon Furnier, the Godfather of Shock Rock revisits his life and career in Devil On My Shoulder, a 464-page memoir published Oct. 6, which he also narrates for the audiobook. The memoir quickly became an international bestseller, topping charts across The New York Times, Amazon and The Sunday Times.

Cooper told Billboard that 90% of the stories in his third book are true, marking a change from his 1976 autobiography, Me, Alice: The Autobiography of Alice Cooper, which he dismissed as “a drunken rant,” and affirms that this account is more reliable. “Nobody really pushed Me, Alice,” Cooper recalled. “Nobody pushed Golf Monster. They were kind of OK, and they were fun. But this was the book we actually took a lot of time on.” Cooper explained that the goal of his 2026 tome is not to invent a persona — since he’s already done that — but to reckon with the man behind it.

The “School’s Out” singer’s third memoir comes in hardcover, paperback, ebook and audiobook options — the latter narrated by Cooper himself.
Across the pages of Devil On My Shoulder, Alice Cooper revisits the addiction he battled in the ’70s and ’80s that eventually led to his sobriety, his return to Christianity and the tension between his stage character and the real him.
He also looks back on the original Alice Cooper Band from its early days as the Earwigs in 1964 to its 1975 split after Muscle of Love. Cooper described the break to Billboard as a separation rather than a bitter breakup, saying he feared the Alice Cooper Band identity was fading. His decision to pursue Welcome to My Nightmare as a solo project was a gamble that ultimately set both sides on separate paths.
Beyond the release of Devil On My Shoulder, the Godfather of Shock Rock is hitting the road for his North American tour, with upcoming stops in cities including Richmond, Atlantic City, St. Louis, San Diego, San Jose and Las Vegas.
The run also includes performances in Windsor, Ontario, and several other U.S. cities, giving fans across North America opportunities to catch the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer live. Tickets to Cooper’s upcoming shows are available through Ticketmaster, with more affordable options via resale platforms SeatGeek and StubHub.
