A good speaker can make or break just about any party or gathering, and it can even set the mood when you’re home alone, working or prepping for dinner.
You no longer have to choose between bluetooth speakers that are portable and capable of enough bass to truly fill a room — that said, there are so many options that it can be hard to know where to start. Especially if you’re planning on taking your speaker along to the beach or pool, knowing that it’s durable and waterproof is an absolute must. Make sure that when you’re scoping out the sound capabilities that you also look for IPX ratings, which are a scale that ranks a device’s ability to take-on water.

For speakers, IPX7 is the ideal, meaning the speaker is both dust-proof and can survive brief submersions into water up to a meter deep. If you fall asleep in your beach chair while the tide is coming in, you won’t wreck your musical sidekick.
It’s also important to think about where you’ll be using the device, even if you plan on keeping it in your home. For the shower, it’s good to know that it has that waterproof certification, but you’ll also need to know if it has a strap that can be easily affixed to faucets or shelves. As for backyard barbecues, it’s good to know if your speaker has the bass and sound quality to carry across a backyard or patio.
We’ve rounded up the best bluetooth speakers, including plenty that have been personally reviewed. Scroll to scope out our picks and their best uses.
