This Bluetooth speaker kit combines STEM learning, sound engineering and hands-on assembly to build a brick-size wireless speaker that can actually be used to play music. Unlike an actual brick though, this portable speaker is super lightweight and can be taken around to play dates and parks alike, to keep the tunes moving.

AUDIO ACTIVITY
DIY Bluetooth Speaker Kit
$35.99
This Amazon set lets users build a portable Bluetooth speaker complete with built-in handle and 20 LED lights that pulse to your music.
Audio blares out from two cones and all the components are housed inside an acrylic shell. The best part: there is no gluing or soldering required, and everything you need to piece the speaker together is included in the box (note: you’ll need batteries, which are not included). Even the wiring is pre-fixed to individual boards, which just need to be snapped together.
The finished speaker measures approximately 6 x 3.2 inches in sizes (or 6 x 4.9 inches with the handle up). Connecting to your phone or laptop is easy via the Bluetooth 5.0. standard and reviewers say the sound is surprisingly loud for the speaker’s size.

BLUE TRANSLUCENT COLORWAY
DIY Bluetooth Speaker Kit
$35.99
The DIY speaker comes in four different colorways, including the black version seen above and a translucent blue colorway seen here, which lets you see all the working components inside.
Though it’s designed to promote STEM learning with kids, the DIY speaker kit is a great gift for music fans of all ages. Gather friends together to build their own speakers at your next party, or pick up a kit for yourself to make a unit that can sit on your an office desk or bedroom shelf. Reviewers give the set a 4.8-star rating out of five.

DIY SPEAKER + RADIO
Build Your Own Bluetooth Speaker Radio
$16.99
Amazon also sets this DIY kit which lets you build a working FM radio (with antenna) and a mini Bluetooth speaker out of wood.
The speaker delivers three watts of sound and the units can either be powered with three AA batteries (not included) or charged via USB cable. The whimsical design resembles a cat’s face (complete with pop-up ears) when completed.
Amazon says this kit is ideal for children ages 8-12, though reviewers say it may be better suited to slightly older ages due to the complexities of the components. See more details here.
